What is an ONU?
An ONU (Optical Network Unit) is a network endpoint device connected to a passive optical network. It converts the optical signal into Ethernet, DSL, VoIP, or Wi-Fi and delivers it to end-user equipment, such as a computer.
What’s the difference between an ONU and an ONT?
The terms are often used interchangeably. However, in general usage, ONT refers to a customer premises unit for residential use, while ONU can also denote industrial or aggregated variants.
Can an ONU be configured?
Yes – local service parameters (such as VLANs, QoS, or routing) can be configured on the ONU based on the provider’s setup.
What type of connectors do ONU devices use?
Most models feature SC/APC or SC/PC connectors for single-mode fiber (OS2 type), depending on the brand and model.
Are your ONUs compatible with Huawei OLTs?
Yes – the listed models are tested for compatibility with OLTs from Huawei, VSOL, and other common vendors used in ISP networks.
How is an ONU activated?
The ONU connects to the OLT and is registered (authenticated) using its serial number (SN) or PON ID. The exact process depends on the specific OLT platform.
