What is a PON card?
The PON card is a module for the OLT unit that allows you to connect ONT devices via an optical network – it provides communication in GPON, XGS-PON or Combo mode.
What is the difference between a GPON and an XGS-PON card?
GPON cards support speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps, while XGS-PON cards reach up to 10 Gbps symmetrically – suitable for corporate or more demanding infrastructures.
How many ONTs can be connected to one PON card?
It depends on the type of card and splitters – 64 to 128 ONT units can normally be connected to one PON port. For XGS-PON ports, up to 256 ONTs.
Are Huawei cards compatible with other OLT brands?
In general, cards need to be used with OLTs of the same brand. For example, Huawei PON cards work with Huawei OLTs. Some OEM solutions may be an exception.
What connectors do PON cards use?
SC/PC optical connectors as standard – singlemode fiber. Always check the specification of the specific model.
What is Combo PON card?
The combo card supports multiple technologies on a single port, such as GPON and XGS-PON, simplifying mixed network deployment.
Do PON cards support VLAN and QoS?
Yes, most professional PON cards offer support for VLAN (802.1Q, QinQ) and advanced QoS settings.
What is the lifespan of a PON card?
With normal operation and proper installation, a PON card can work for 10-15 years without any problems.
Do I need a PON card license?
For some manufacturers (e.g. Huawei), it is necessary to have an active license for each PON port. Check this at the time of purchase.
